The Sino-Japanese Carbon Pricing Mechanism Symposium took place at Nagoya University in Japan on November 21. The conference brought together experts and scholars from China and Japan in the field of carbon pricing mechanisms for an in-depth exchange on the development of such mechanisms in both countries. Professor Katsutoshi Shimizu, Dean of the School of Economics at Nagoya University, attended the symposium and delivered the welcoming address.
Professor Zhang Xiliang, Director of the Institute of Energy, Environment, and Economy at Tsinghua University, and the project leader of the "China Carbon Market" project supported by the Tsinghua University-Toyota Research Center, attended the symposium. He delivered an academic report on "The Development of China's National Carbon Market in the Context of Carbon Neutrality," emphasizing the design features of the Chinese carbon market and its crucial role in achieving the "dual-carbon" goals.
Doctoral candidate Qu Chenfei, a core member of the "China Carbon Market" project at Tsinghua University's Institute of Energy, Environment, and Economy, presented an academic report titled "General Equilibrium Analysis of China's National Carbon Market Trading System." The report provided an overview of the model structure of the "China Carbon Market Simulation Model" and presented the cost-benefit analysis results for the national carbon market in China.
Professor Kiyohiko Fujikawa from Nagoya University delivered an academic report titled "Development of the Japanese Carbon Market and Cooperation between China and Japan." In his presentation, he discussed the current status of the Japanese carbon market, existing challenges, and the prospects for collaboration between the Chinese and Japanese carbon markets. Zhang Binliang, Visiting Researcher at the Center for International Economic Policy Research at Nagoya University, presented a report titled "Corporate Actions and Emission Reduction Paths in the Context of Global Carbon Neutrality," exploring the actions and emission reduction paths of companies globally amid the backdrop of carbon neutrality.
Mr. Oshima and Mr. Hō from Toyota Motor Corporation's Future Creation Center were invited to attend the symposium and spoke during the discussion session. Mr. Oshima provided an overview of the collaboration between Toyota and Tsinghua University, expressing continuous interest in the macro development trends of carbon pricing. He also expressed anticipation for establishing broader collaborative relationships with various stakeholders.

The concluding remarks were delivered by Professor Masasaku Sonoda, former Dean of the School of Economics at Nagoya University. Professor Sonoda highly praised the outcomes of the symposium and expressed anticipation for increased communication and collaboration between China and Japan in the field of carbon pricing policies in the future. The symposium was chaired by Professor Xue Jinjun, a professor at the School of Economics at Nagoya University and a visiting professor at the School of Public Management at Tsinghua University. Liu Bin, Vice Director of the Institute of Energy, Environment, and Economy at Tsinghua University, also participated in the symposium.
